Buwan ng Wika: Filipino Reading Challenge

For August, the "Buwan ng Wika," I've decided to challenge myself by reading at least one book in Filipino per week.  This should be...interesting, considering that the one and only book in Filipino I've read from start to finish was a translation of The Little Prince.  (Pugad Baboy collections don't count!)

I just don't get along well with written Filipino.  And by "don't get along well" I mean "at the first glimpse, my brain freezes up completely, leaving me staring at the page in blank incomprehension."  So.  This is going to require strength of will to force my brain to make the effort to understand the words I'm looking at.

I'll be starting myself off gently...VERY gently...with Where Your Dreams Come True by Anna Ishikawa, a 75-page chick lit romance.  Others on the list are ABNKKBSNPLAKo?! by Bob Ong (told you I was starting myself off gently), Bata, Bata... Pa'no Ka Ginawa? by Lualhati Bautista, and then at least one super hardcore Tagalog thing like, I don't know, Florante at Laura?  (I was considering reading Agaw-dilim, Agaw-liwanag by Lualhati M. Abreu, since it's sitting on our bookshelf, but I can't even read the cover blurbs.  I was trying to see if it looked like an interesting book, but my brain simply shut down and refused to comprehend the words I was looking at.  Maybe next year.)
